Gammill Dealer for New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire
The 12th Stitch Quilts is owned and operated by Mary Oaksford. Mary said she loves quilting for the artistic value of creating and the warmth and comfort it brings to people of all ages. Quilting also reminds her of her large family, which is where the name the 12th Stitch originates. Mary was the 12th and youngest child in the Gilchriest family. “I have fond memories of my sisters and I getting together to quilt, talk and enjoy each other’s company,” she said.
Mary retired from the Air National Guard/Air Force in 2015 with 28 years in service. Throughout her military career she worked in Training & Education, Retention and as a First Sergeant. Mary is a Literacy professor at the local community college for the past 11 years. She said she looks forward to using her experience in education to assist and train her customers.
When first purchasing a Gammill, the intuitive software and education materials were some of the qualities she appreciated about the brand. “Between the instruction manual and intuitive software, we were able to complete all of the user manual examples prior to our home training,” she said. “Our trainer was so amazed, not only did we receive the training, we actually completed a customer’s quilt during the session.”
Mary said she also appreciates the heavy-duty casting of Gammill’s machine head and the materials and finish of the machine and table. “The sewing head and the entire table were well thought out and positioned. The machine is already ergonomically user friendly with built-in adjustments that can further enhance the individual’s needs,” she added.
Mary has four children. Her husband, Jim, serves as the 12th Stitch’s Service Technician.
