    I recently purchased a used Gammill Classic Plus with a stitch regulator and I am not sure how to read the bobbin remaining amount. I pressed and held the M button, then the A button, released the M, then released the A, as instructed in my manual. Since I am changing the bobbin, I went ahead and pressed + to reset.

    The screen now reads BFM: 15 and BFC: 64. What do these abbreviations and numbers mean? I am unsure how to use them to track the remaining amount in my bobbins going forward.

    Hi Liesl,

    Here’s some information for you.

    BFM = Bobbin Full Multiplier
    BFC = Bobbin Full Count

    You can check the bobbin counter value at any time. To access the Bobbin Count Screen, press M, then A, release M, and then release A. The screen will show the number of counts remaining.

    Each time the top thread rotates the signal wheel, the computer reduces the count by one, starting with the Bobbin Full Count (BFC).
    Example: 64 β†’ 63 β†’ 62 β†’ 61…

    When the BFC reaches 0, the Bobbin Full Multiplier (BFM) decreases by one.
    Example: 15 β†’ 14 β†’ 13 β†’ 12…

    Each time the BFM drops, the BFC resets to 64 and begins counting down again. When the BFM reaches 0, an audible alert and flashing red light will notify you to check the bobbin thread amount.

    Example sequence:

    64 β†’ 63 β†’ 62 … 3 β†’ 2 β†’ 1, BFM becomes 14

    64 β†’ 63 β†’ 62 … 3 β†’ 2 β†’ 1, BFM becomes 13

    Just keep in mind, it’s not always super accurate because different fill levels, thickness of thread and such can affect how quickly the bobbin thread runs out and the machine doesn’t know any better, it’s basically a fancy timer.

    This is why so many of us end up playing β€œchicken bobbin” β€” we quilt until the bobbin runs out instead of tracking every count! 😊

    Miriam, thank you so much for this very thorough explanation of the number, letters, what they mean and how they work! I truly appreciate it.
