Quilting Experience: 19 years
Karen began her quilt making journey in 1997 when her sister dragged her into a quilt shop. She told her that all she had to do was sew a straight line! Karen soon found out that there was a little more involved in quilting than just stitching that straight line! Purchasing her first long arm in 1998, Karen became passionate about free motion quilting and the way the quilting could totally transform the quilt!
Karen has written two piecing books, both published by Martingale and Co. Although she still teaches domestic piecing classes, her true love is teaching free motion quilting on a long arm! Karen says “I just love that moment when a quilter realizes she Can do it!” It is so rewarding to be a part of that moment in another quilter’s journey and very humbling to know you had a part in it!
Karen has won numerous awards for her innovative piecing and quilting skills both nationally and internationally. Her greatest love, aside from her family and friends, is sharing the joy of quilting with other quilters!
Karen’s Quilting Tip: Realize that quilt making is a journey! It’s not how quickly you get from Point A to Point B that counts, it’s enjoying the trip! I try to make time to just have “play days.” Practice is something my Mom made me do, but playing is much more fun. Throw a piece of fabric on, and let your creative juices flow! I come up with some of my best ideas when I just let myself “play” and see what happens!
