Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS)

While Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) are convenient, they are meant only for light power consumption usage and thus are not recommended for Statler by Gammill controllers. The Galil controller cards in the Statler controller have been damaged from the use of UPS systems.
UPS units are not meant for the kind of power usage that the Statler controller requires.  There are many times that a Statler controller needs power now and a UPS just canít keep up, causing a dip in voltage across the battery.  Itís sort of like putting out a fire with a squirt gun that holds 500 gallons Ė even though there is sufficient water, it canít be applied fast enough.
This dip can lead to potentially serious problems such as ďabort due to obstacleĒ errors, Stitcher response errors, Galil errors, and can even cause damage to the Galil.  These problems have occurred simply by having a controller plugged into a UPS even when there was no power outage.

Controllers should not be plugged into a UPS.  Even outlets on the UPS that are not battery back-up.

A UPS can be used for the computer.  Plugging your computer into a UPS does allow you to save your project before turning off your computer in the case of a power outage so that you do not lose anything and can pick up where you left off.
