I have loaded backing fabric and batting. I then sew a horizontal line, with channel lock on. The distance between the sewn line and the leader varies by almost an inch in some places. Does that mean my leaders are not straight?

Another question about Gammill leaders. Should we be able to zip the leaders together when trying to straighten? Maybe I have mine on wrong, they don't zip together.
